But if this is the Cc. passage I'm thinking about, Gopinathacarya's argument (also based on sastra) was that even sastra cannot convince someone who hasn't received the mercy of Bhagavan. Thanks. I got the Saatvata-Tantra and I just wanted to locate the verse. It is 1.30 of the Saatvata-Tantra in the edition translated by Kushakratha dasa. The verse is: viShNos tu triiNi ruupaaNi puruShaakhyaanyatho viduH | ekas tu mahataH sraShTR^i dvitiiya.m tvanusa.msthitam | tR^itiiya.m sarvabhuutastha.m taani j~naatvaa vimuchyate || (translation of A.C. Bhaktivedanta follows) "Vishnu has three forms called purushas. The first, Mahaa-Vishnu, is the creator of the total material energy (mahat), the second is Garbhodashaayi, who is situated within each universe, and the third is Kshiirodashaayi, who lives in the heart of every living being." I wonder if there are any other shrutis or smritis which explicitly give this nomenclature (Mahaa-, Garbhodashaayi, Kshiirodashaayi)?
