Guest guest
Previously, when we were discussing the Padma Puraana verse (maayaavaadam asach chaastram prachchhanam bauddham uchyate) which states that Maayaavaada (aka Advaita) is veiled Buddhism, it was opined by some that the verses in question could be interpolated because no Vaishnava aachaarya ever quoted them before. I believe both Ram and Sumeet suggested this possibility. According to my source, this specific verse has indeed been quoted by Maadhavas in the past. Here is an excerpt of the posting: And one would wonder what others were doing when these verses were being fabricated. Why, Sri Vijayindra Tirtha quotes these verses (mAyAvAdaM asachChAstraM ..) in response to Appayya Dikshita's criticism (which should be around 15-16th century) and the latter has no answer for them. Why didn't the latter simply reply that these verses were fabricated by you or to be found only in mAdhva (or any Tulu/kannada) version of the purANa? I just realized that the URL as posted might not lead to the proper place. To get to the exact message, you can go to www.hindunet.org, click on "forums," go to the forum "Dvaita" and look at posting #33594 dated 9/1/03 in the thread "Vedanta is Dangerous for a Swollen Ego" entitled "Truth about Advaita." A word of caution, however. This forum has very little to do with "Dvaita," as the entire collection of forums is primarily the playground of fertile mental speculators. Consider yourselves warned.
