Guest guest
Haribol! I've recently got an offer to receive an organ donor card and started to wonder about the vedic- vishneva perspective on the subject. My speculation is that it's shouldn't be a problem to give your remains to a needy after you die and no longer need this body. Any other views, facts or thoughts on the subject? Hope this finds you in the best of health, Your servant: Omer

Your bhava or feeling/understanding behind doing such deed should be according to following verse: Life's desires should never be directed toward sense gratification. One should desire only a healthy life, or self-preservation, since a human being is meant for inquiry about the Absolute Truth. Nothing else should be the goal of one's works. [bhag 1.2.10] So this is indeed good work. Just pray to krishna that it reaches a person who has desire for spiritual welfare of this person. Between, if the organization has a provision of taking note of your will/wish as to who you would like to give this thing to, you should tell them to give it to those who are devoted to God so that they have a healthy body to make spiritual progress. And if there is no provision even then these organs which are nourished with energy from prasadam will definately benefit even if they reach a non devotee. There is a nice story in this regard: http://www.indiadivine.org/tilak-gopi-chandana1.htm Even the dust of feet of devotees is so pure. Of course we ain't like gopis, but by krishna's grace the prasadam which nourishes our body indeed makes it pure. So the fact is if we have submissively served Vaishnavas and Krishna even our organs etc..... shall benefit though it can be very small benefit depending on our submissive service to them. In this way one should use their body parts in service of krishna. Imagine the organs once you possessed, are still being used in service of krishna after you leave. That is indeed glorious. With such mentalities one should make donations. I will also sign up for organ donation with some proper organization. Please let me know via a seperate e-mail if you know of any authentic, reliable organization. Your Servant Always, Sumeet.
