Guest guest
This sounds spurious. There are only 12 verses of Mandukya upanishad that Sankara commented on (Read Dr. Radhakrishnan's, Principal upanishads). And, these discuss the three states of experience: waking, dream and deep sleep, and AUM. If there is a direct proof for avidya as your advaitin friend might lead you to believe, acharyas like Vedanta Desika wouldn't have problems accpeting the concept of maya/avidya according to advaitins. Vedanta Desika clearly says that the concept of avidya does not have any basis in any of the three pramanas (perception, inference and sabda), what to speak of its non-existence in shruti-pramana. I also suggest confirm such postings in a genuine forum for advaita such as advaita-l or advaitin. I look fwd to hearing from others. in your service, Aravind.dhani <dhannyganesh > wrote: an advaitin brought the following to my attention, this is the translation he provided:"" The unborn Atman becomes manifold through maya and not otherwise. For if the manifold were real, then the immortal would become mortal."Chapter 3, verse 19 MANDUKYA UPANISHAD " Search - Find what you’re looking for faster.
