This sounds spurious. There are only 12 verses of Mandukya upanishad

turns out that verse is from section 3 verse 19 of gaudapadas karika

to mandukyopanisad & not from the actual text of mandukya which has

only 12 verses as u pointed out. sorry for the disturbance in the

forum

There was no disturbance. Actually, I suspected this was the case.

There has been a controversy in the past about some of Gaudapaadas

Kaarikaas being confused as being part of the Upanishad. I wasn't

sure if this was one such example.

As a side note, when asking about the correct interpretation of a

particular shloka/mantra/etc, one should try to provide the original

Sanskrit, even in addition to the verse numbers. Especially for a

mainstream text like this, one can find the Sanskrit even online (see

the Links section for the Sanskrit documents web page).

Haribol, honorable vaisnavas,

All glories to Srila Prabhupada and his wonderful followers all over the

world!

Actually, this issue isn't so simple. Srila Madhvacarya commented on the

Mandukya Upanisad, and by the arrangement of Krishna, I have an old

translation in my possession. I quote the editor's introduction:

"According to Madhva, this Upanishad is called Mandukya because it was

revealed by a frog (Manduka). Varuna, the Lord of the Seas, assuming the

form of a frog, praised Hari with the hymns of this poem.

"This Upanishad contains twelve verses. But Sri Madhva reads the Karikas,

passing under the name of Gaudapada, as part of the text itself. ...

Altogether there are 41 verses."

The entire document is only about 21 photocopied pages. Perhaps I can post

it as a PDF.

Anyway, it goes without saying that if Sri Madhvacarya commented upon the

Karikas, considering them part of the Upanishad itself, there can't be a

shred of Mayavada there, either.

More when I get a chance.

Hare Krishna,

Shobhana Krishna Dasa
