Guest guest
If a Vaisnava does not do the work of a guru, then the spiritual Vaisnava lineage will stop. Still, if he does the work of a guru, then he becomes a non-Vaisnava. For if a guru thinks, "I am a guru," then the first u in the word guru disappears and the word becomes garu (cow). A real guru does not make disciples, and thus remains a guru. What is the reference for this quote from Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura? Guest guest
I have cited this in Ray of Vishnu quoting from Bhaktikusum Sraman Maharaja's biography of BSST. He does not give a specific source for the quote. He just states: "He has written." However, at least a general theme, BSST often referred to his disciples as his "friends" and was known to greet them with dasosmi--"I am your servant." He was acutely aware of the danger of thinking that I am the master of anyone. If a Vaisnava does not do the work of a guru, then the spiritual Vaisnavalineage will stop. Still, if he does the work of a guru, then he becomes anon-Vaisnava. For if a guru thinks, "I am a guru," then the first u in theword guru disappears and the word becomes garu (cow).
