Our material state is temporary but while in that condition it may seem eternal because our nature is to experience things as eternal. Free will is our God given right and only we decide our own fate. We can be with God if we desire and Krsna consciousness is the means to that. In the Gita Krsna explains everything to Arjuna then says you decide. Arjuna chooses Krsna so He will regain His eternal life.
