Guest guest Posted July 10, 2004 Report Share Posted July 10, 2004 When chanting Hare Krsna a devotee becomes intoxicated by the holy names and this is an experience of spiritual ecstasy free from all mundane attachments. Austerity means to experience, preach, act in a spiritual state of consciousness so austerity actually means spiritual intoxication and ecstasy. Material intoxication means renouncing our natural spiritual blissful state and is actually the austerity because in that illusionary state we become duller and further and further away from experiencing our true selves and so feel an acute sense of anxiety and hopelessness. Ignorance cannot protect us from suffering but is the actual cause of it. Only God can protect us and we are safe so far as we are surrendered to Him. New and Improved Mail - Send 10MB messages!
