Guest guest
The following is a chat where one of the discples offers defense against some of my charges. Rajaram Venkataramani: haribol. jndas : hare krishna Rajaram Venkataramani: do you have access to kapyasa koumudi and brahma vidya abaranam jndas : no Rajaram Venkataramani: how do you reconcile literary and factual errors by acharyas ? the intention is curiosity not offense. jndas : cite some examples and I can reply Rajaram Venkataramani: to make sure that you understand my neutrality let me first quote an error by kanchi maha periyaval. in one of his published lectures he quotes the verse 11.8 in which the last word according to him is isvaram referring to lord siva as well. though "one can stretch" it that way that is not how other scholars translate. so, without explanation in accordance with the rules of grammar it may be considered a literary flaw. now as far as srila prabhupada is concerned, he translates Sveteshvatara Upanishad (4.9) kesagra verse incompletely leaving out the words bhaaga anantyaaya. based on this one of his grand disciples concluded that the atomic has a definite material dimension!! jndas : he has paraphrased jndas : there is no fault in paraphrasing a translation to support a particular point jndas : when another point is needed to be made, the verse may be paraphrased in another way jndas : everyone does this jndas : verse have multiple meanings and angles, and not all must be explained each time the verse is cited Rajaram Venkataramani: hmm. the following is an example of factual error. in BG krishnadasa is listed as the guru of narottama but in other works lokanath is. jndas : vande gurun isha bhakta jndas : guru is plural jndas : our parampara is not based on diksha Rajaram Venkataramani: did narottama meet krishnadasa ? what were their times ? jndas : guru does not need to be met jndas : the nitya siddhas can guide us by their mercy Rajaram Venkataramani: i cant forget to remember the title i gave you - "krishna's attorney". ha ha. how do you reconcile with spiritual judgement where people considered great by Srila Prabhupada such as Kirtananda fell down. jndas : prabhupada encouraged his fallen disciples jndas : but he also said they were fools jndas : prabhupada instructed all of us to become spiritual masters jndas : some tried and failed Rajaram Venkataramani: how do you reconcile with the errors in usage of english language ? jndas : the editors fault jndas : prabhupada's books were full of english mistakes jndas : you should see his pre america books jndas : pre-1965 jndas : the english grammar is full of mistakes jndas : he never claimed to be an english professor jndas : krishna also fails some exams in gurukula jndas : that is lila Rajaram Venkataramani: good. i will post it in achintya. they may like it. jndas : according to the scriptures the pure devotee is full of all mystic oppulences jndas : and the vedanta sutra says the jivan-mukta is omniscient jndas : this is the word of the shastra
