Hare Krishna all,

Can someone kindly tell who coined the phrase "Krishna consciousness" and why

so? What's the exact sanskrit equivalent that's conveyed through the phrase? it

is interesting that this particular phrase has been chosen from infinite other

possibilities. Looking fwd to hearing more,

in your service,

Hare Krishna

I'm not sure if this is the right answer, but "Caitanya" means

consciousness. I've always thought that "Krishna consciousness" was Srila

Prabhupada's English description of Sri Krishna Caitanya's movement.

Hare Krishna.

All Glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Please accept my humble obeisances.

"Krishna Consciousness" is Srila Prabhupada's English

rendition of Srila Rupa Goswami's word

"Krishna-bhakti-rasa-bhavita" or to be always immersed

in the mellows of loving Krishna. This is bound in

Bhakti-rasamrtra-sindu which Srila Prabhupada has

translated in a summary study form as "The Nectar of

Devotion". This information is found in Satsvarupa

Maharaja's "Srila Prabhupada Lilamtra".

Hare Krishna,

Wow, thanks for the reply prabhu. Very nice. Thanks to Pandu pr. also. I look

forward to hearing more, if there is any. Please share. It's also possible that

Srila Prabhupada chose this to popularize sankhya (of Lord Kapila), the

analytical study of matter and spirit, particularly among the scientists. I'll

write more about this in the future.

Question: Can someone tell which word in the Vedas/Upanishads is the sanskrit

equivalent of "consciousness"? because, I have seen other vedantins use this

word - cosmic consciousness, universal consciousness - somehow I'm not able to

remember the exact word. thanks.
