Guest guest
there is a charge from sri vaishnavas that appayya dikshitar of sankaracharya line along with his team concocted the theory of 108 upanishads, where as there are only 18 upanishads. as this is from a bonafide sampradaya based on a lot of evidence, it has to be respected and dealt with. how do gaudiyas counter this ? what is the madhwa view on this ? any information on this is appreciated. Any theory with evidence behind it should be respected and dealt with, "bona fide" source or not. how do gaudiyas counter this ? what is the > madhwa view on this ? any information on this is appreciated. Some of the more vocal members of CMS are of the opinion that many of the 108 Upanishads are forged by Advaitins of recent times. Their reasoning behind this seems a little shaky to me. As far as I know, neither Maadhva nor Gaudiiya leaders have given an explicit statement on the matter. I know for a fact that Vishvanaatha Chakravarti commented on the Krishna and Gopaala-taapanii Upanishads. I know also that Srila Prabhupada listed the 108 Principle Upanishads from the Muktika in his CC commentary (I forget exactly where). Strangely enough, when I brought up this listing several years ago on soc.religion.vaishnava, the Maadhva response was somewhat ambivalent at that time. On one hand, they said they never hard of them, but on the other hand they denied saying that these were unacceptable. It was only later that they started declaring them to be forgeries after someone posted evidence from Krishna Upanishad showing that the Lord does indeed have a Kali Yuga avataar, which runs contrary to Maadhva theology.
