We sat in your office in the temple on Henry Street in Brooklyn, and you

were telling us of the future, when devotees, commanding the wealth and

power of nations, would confront and conquer demoniac hosts. And I was sick

with misgiving. So I put the matter before you.

 

"You foresee a time when devotees will have the wealth of whole countries

under their control and will deploy whole armies," I said.

 

And you nodded, "Yes."

 

Then my doubt: "In those circumstances, how can we be sure that we won't

become demons?"

 

You didn't hesitate. "Chant sixteen rounds a day and follow the four

regulative principles."

 

"That's enough?" I asked.
