There would be not necessarily be a contradiction if oblations were offered for the mother, grandmother etc., if they had remained faithful to their husbands. However I don't know the details of the vidhi. It probably varies in different communities. I read in a pre 1937 (pre Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati disappearance) edition of Gaudiya (the Gaudiya Math magazine) of sraddha for the wife of a devotee being conducted just after her departure.
