Eternal master and father

Once several disciples asked Srila Prabhupada if their relationship with him

could advance through the stages of servitude, friendship, parental, and

conjugal. Srila Prabhupada said no, this was an improper understanding. The

real relationship, he said, was expressed in the song Sri Guru-vandana:

janme janme prabhu sei. "He is my lord, birth after birth." On another

occasion, when disciples asked if Srila Prabhupada was the eternal father of

his disciples, he smiled and said, "I think so." And again he quoted the

verse from Sri Guru-vandana, this time changing the word prabhu (master) to

pita (father) - janme janme pita sei.
