Guest guest
We are purchasing a new house and are setting aside one room specifically for worship. I would like to know on which side (North, South, East, West) of the room should Deities be placed, and in which direction They should ideally be facing? Some people tell me that Deities should be placed so that they are facing East, while others tell me that they should be placed on the East side facing West. I would like to know which way is definitely the correct one. Also, is there any scripture or other text which explicitly mentions this subject? Thanks in advance. Guest guest
Dear Susarla Prabhu, Hare Krishna. Please accept my humble obeisances. All Glories to Srila Prabhupada. Based on my association with devotees and those who have some understanding of Vastu shastra, the recommendation for the location of the altar and deity room is the north-east direction in the house. The Vastu purusha's head is located in this direction. If north-east is not possible, then at least the east. Also, another recommendation is to place Srimati Tulasi devi in the North-east or east location. Since our system is to have Tulasi devi with the Lord, this can go together. The Lord should face the east, i.e. the direction of the rising morning sun. It is also recommended that we should sleep facing the same so that when we awake, we see the sun and get the morning light. This stems from similar treatment of the Lord's waking also. As for the references, it is best to consult a Vastu expert or someone with some knowledge in this regard. The pramanas may be found in the Vastu Shastras. Let me see if I can obtain some information for you in this regard. Hare Krishna. your servant, r. jai simman jakarta, indonesia .
