Guest guest
Here are the passages I was referring to. It would be nice to know what are the exact texts and verses Srila Bhaktisiddanta was referring to when he mentions various scriptures. Also, is Bhaktisiddhanta is saying that anyone can accept a diksa-mantra and become a brahmana? That doesn't make sense to me since the unique characteristics of leaders, businessmen, and broad-minded intellectuals are not easily acquired. People (regardless of their parents' identities) are born with certain natures. I would guess that accepting a diksa mantra puts one in a purified position to be regarded for any of the four varnas. Of course, in another sense, a Vaisnava is transcendental to all varnas. -Gerald Surya >From Brahmana O Vaisnava: p.211 In this age of Kali, there is no other way of becoming purified. asuddhah sudra-kalpa hi brahmanah kali-ambhavah | tesam agama-margena suddhir na srota-vartmana || "The brahmanas born in this age of Kali are merely sudras. Their so-called Vedic path of karma is polluted and cannot purify them. They can only be purfied by following the path of the agamas or pancaratras." Therefore at present, a brahmana should be accepted as such only if he follows the rules and regulations of the satvata agamas, tantras, or pancaratras, since the scripture clearly mention that brahmanas born in this age of Kali are impure, or their purity is not maintained through seminal descent. p.226 The seminal method is not the only method for ascertaining who is a brahmana. These topics are elaborately diescribed in Kashmir-agama. Both the above passages are from Pundarika Vidhyanidhi (Vrajraj Press, 1999). I can scan and email the Bengali if anyone is interested. (sorry, no translation) Srila Bhaktisiddhanta on the Kiba vipra verse: http://www.gosai.com/krishna-talk/brahmana-guru.html Ei vakye vidhilikh prayoge vaisnava-visvasanugamane krsna-tattva-vettara vrtta-brahmanatai svabhavika, sutaram kalipracalita srotra-sambandha vyatita brahmanata yekhane haite pare na, tat-sthale krsna-tattva-vitta haile srotra-sudra u sastriya brahmanata labha kariya guru haite paren - ihai Sri Mahaprabhu suksmabhave bujhaiya dilen. Kintu nirboddha lokera tahardig ke aneka samaya 'acyuta-brahman' baliya bujhite na pariya nirayagami haya; One who is conversant with the science of Krsna naturally has the character of a brahmana. Therefore, wherever it is said that anything apart from 'seminal brahmanism' is lower (a concept which has only been introduced in the age of Kali) will not do, Mahaprabhu has carefully given us the understanding that even a 'seminal sudra' who knows the science of Krsna is able to become a guru because he has attained scriptural brahmanism. Those acquainted with the science of Krsna who do not accept the savitra-samskara (the ceremony of acceptance of the sacred thread), which is mentioned in the Katyayana Grhya-sutra within the Vedic Vajasaneya section, are actually all brahmanas initiated in the ekayana system. However, most of the time, some foolish people cannot understand that these Vaisnavas are infallible brahmanas (acyuta brahmanas) and thus such fools become condemned to hell.
