Here are notes from HH Jayadvaita Swami's 'Food for Death' seminar: "No one within a 10-mile radius should go hungry." We've heard the story of how Srila Prabhupada saw a child taking food from the garbage, and, moved to tears, said we must feed them. And so the famous quotation. Sometimes I've read that the story and quotation are in SPL. In fact they're not. I searched the entire Folio Vedabase-including SPL--for "mile, miles, kilometer, kilometers," and "garbage." Nothing. "Hungry child, hungry children, starving child, starving children." No story. Still, I believe the story is true. I think perhaps I read it in one of Syamasundara's newsletters when he was Srila Prabhupada's secretary. In the notes for the FFD seminar (which is sent in a separate text as an attached file) Jayadvaita Swami establishes that Srila Prabhupada wanted prasada distribution principally at ISKCON temples. Guest guest
So, I am a little confused.is the ISKCON Food For Life organization / program not a program that was approved by Srila Prabhupada and the GBC after His passing? If it is not, how can they keep the ISKCON affiliation? If it is, than why are there seminar's like 'Food for Death', and quotes showing that FFL is not authorized? Krishna "Food for Life as the name suggests is a unique project for bringing food and life to the needy of the world through the liberal distribution of karma-free vegetarian meals. The project started in 1974 when an elderly Indian swami, Srila Prabhupada, asked his followers to not allow anyone within a ten mile radius of the temple to go hungry. The program grew quickly and now operates in over 60 countries worldwide." "Food for Life is the humanitarian service of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), a branch of Vaisnava Hinduism, otherwise known as the Hare Krishna movement."
