Mangal sutra

Hare Krishna,

 

This question was posed by one of my relatives. In

marriage, does the ceremony of a man tying the sacred

thread called mangal sutra around the woman's neck has

any scriptural basis? Can the learned members of this

forum kindly post some direct scriptural verses to

this respect and what the act signifies?
