Guest guest
Friends, In Mahabharata and Ramayana (english versions online), there is NO mention of animals being eaten under any circumstances except by butchers and some Sudras. In such a large scripture, if animals were eaten on regular basis there definitely would have been mention but its not there. There is a very big conversation between a brahmin and a butcher documented in MB wherein the brahmin asks the butcher why does he indulge in such a sinful activity of killing animals for stomach. Not only that there are other verses that condemn killing any living creature except for the purpose of sacrifice. However there is mention of animals being sacrificed in great Yagnas. And as a part of Yagna ritual, a very small amount of meat was probably consumed without adding taste as per some well known vedic experts. The conclusion is clearly that eating meat and killing animals was considered a sinful activity in ancient times, but the rule of killing animals was relaxed for Yagnas. There are other Dharmasastras which ordain that animal-sacrifices are not allowed in the age of Kali, this rule has been unanimously followed by all schools of hindu thought existing today. The entire concept of Yagna was twisted by enemies of hinduism to foolishly assume that people enjoyed meat in ancient days. One needs to have strength to resist such propaganda. Proper research will always help determine the facts. A common strategy these days is to use fake quotes or gross misinterpretations to justify positions. And enemies of Dharma indulge in too many of these. Regards. --- scooty_ram <scooty_ram wrote: Haribol, Are there are vedic statements that condemn eating non-vegetarian food. Guest guest
Adding to this discussion, I am not quite sure that it would be accurate to say there was little or not much meating in older Vedic times. SP told us that the reason Lord Buhdda appeared was to stop the eating of meat that had become at least fairly wide spread, this was however from animals that had been sacrificed but nonetheless the LORD himself seems to have found it significant enough to appear to put an end to it. I am also aware that there are more that a few Hindu sects that eat fish, I believe in the Bengal region and they do so within the beliefs of their sect. Guest guest
Similar cheating system is the Hindus also. You'll find in Calcutta, in College Street, so many butcher house. And they have kept one goddess Kali that 'We are eating Mother Kali's prasada.'That's it. This is going on."
