Guest guest
Dear devotees, I have repeatedly been asking members to avoid excessive quoted text in their replies, especially in replies to the digest. For example, it is very inconsiderate to post 2 or 3 lines in response to a 100-line quoted posting. Simple use of the [delete] key can edit down any replied-to article to an appropriate length focusing on the specific lines being addressed. The FAQ and Rules, both of which are posted monthly, warn again this behavior. I have also personally posted requests for members to discontinue this behavior. Nevertheless, some members have persistently ignored this request and continue simply hitting the reply key, with not a care in the world as to how many hundreds of lines of quoted text remain in their postings. I'm not sure why this behavior persists despite my repeated entreaties to exercise greater consideration. It is especially inconsiderate to those who receive the digest form of the list. I don't have the time or energy to repeatedly police members of the list who are doing this. Nor am I interested in repeating myself. Consequently, I am simply going to delete postings from the archives whenever I see this practice going on, and repeat offenders will be quietly placed on the moderation list. Once on the moderation list, expect delays in getting your postings approved, since I may or may not look at them in a timely fashion. If you wish to avoid that fate, then please reread the FAQ and the rules, and follow them. Please, no apologies or discussions on this matter. Simply reread the rules and follow them so that the list remains uncluttered. As far as what constitutes "excessive" quoted text, my advice is simply use common sense. 10 lines of replied-to text with 5 lines of response might be ok, but I'm sure we can agree that a 100-lines of quoted text followed by 5 lines of original response usually will not be.
