Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I was hoping someone could help me, Im new to this movement and not living near a temple, I do chant Hare Krishna often, but I still have a few questions I was hoping you could answer for me.. What I would like to know is this: 1. What do you recommend new comers to do to get into the path 2. How does one become a devotee? Do you need the association of others to become a devotee of Krishna? What Requirements are there for a person to join? 3. What books do you recommend one reads? Where do you get them? 4. Is it possible to follow this path without other devotees, if so, how? Thank you. Cecilia
Guest guest
Hare Krsna. > > 1. What do you recommend new comers to do to get > into the path We recommend new comers to chant the Holy Name of the Lord, and associate with devotees. Associating with likely-minded people who are also interested in spiritual path helps one to increase their taste to perform devotional service. > 2. How does one become a devotee? Do you need the > association of > others to become a devotee of Krishna? What > Requirements are there for > a person to join? Association is must. If one is not near one of our centers and could not get personal association, we recommend them to hear lectures of Srila Prabhupada and other senior devotees and read books of Srila Prabhupada, and his disciples. Our basic requirements are: No meat eating, No intoxication, no illicit sex, and no gambling. This are prerequisites. But everyone is welcome to attend programs at our centers. > 3. What books do you recommend one reads? Where do > you get them? For newcomers we recommend them to read: Perfect Questions Perfect Answers, Science of Self-Realization, Coming Back and other books. You can visit our website at www.krsna.com. > 4. Is it possible to follow this path without other > devotees, if so, > how? It is difficult. > Thank you. > Cecilia > Hare Krsna, Madhupati Dasa > > > > Start your day with - Make it your home page! http://www./r/hs

Guest guest
Hare Krsna. I know it's contrary to the standard prescription, but I've consistently found it most difficult to maintain my faith and enthusiasm in association with other devotees. For a variety of reasons, I've always felt stronger just with Srila Prabhupada's books and recordings, and with Tulasi at home. That way I've had to look within myself for my inspiration and appreciation of Krishna consciousness. It seems to me worth considering that different types of people may thrive in different situations. Hare Krsna. Pandu das
Guest guest
Hare Krsna prabhus, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. In regards to Pandu's letter, yes, I too find it more beneficial being out of constant association with devotees. That is only because I am such a fault finder; it really depends on the mood of the individual who. In any case, I still recommend staying in touch via email or forums like this, and reading the "Bhagavad Gita As It Is" VERY carefully. It is the first step in learning that we are not these bodies. Also, learning Lord Caitanya's Siksastika verses because they portray the mood every devotee constantly endeavors to attain. Most of all, I highly recommend that you keep a schedule. The tendency for beginners like myself is to always put whatever it is off until later. Be as regulated as your life and family situation allow. Although luck has little to do with it, good luck in developing your devotional creeper. Guard it with your life.
