Guest guest
According to Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura, the Gita clearly indicates the gradation of these three phases of Godhead. In 10.42, Lord Krishna who is always referred to as Bhagavan says that the universe is maintained by His amsa, which VCT clarifies as Paramatma. The gradation is further clarified by the elaborate description of that latter form in chapter 11. VCT indicates in 11.7 that the form to be revealed is that of the first purusa avatara who is the object of the Purusa-sukta prayers. This form along with Garbhdakasayi Visnu and Ksirodakasayi Vishnu are called Paramatma and is a portion of Bhagavan. In 15.16-18, he states that the ksara purusa is the jivas, the aksara is impersonal Brahman, higher than these is the Paramatma in verse-17, then in verse 18 there is Krishna or Bhagavan. Also in his comments to 13.13, he says that the term Brahman in the famous verse 14.27 brahmano hi prathisthaham also refers to Paramatma. Therefore, verse 14.27 indicates that Bhagavan is superior to both Paramatma and Bhagavan. There are also other subtle indications of this gradation.
