Guest guest
Haribol everyone. I'm writing from India, from one of these cybercafe type places. The email download is sooo slow that I figured I would sent you a message while I waited. Anyway, Ramya and I went to Tirupati and had darshan of Lord Venkateshwara. We did suprabhatam seva, archana seva, and performed kalyaanam for the first time. I bought some Sri Vaishnava recordings of Vedic chanting - a nice two volume set called "Veda nadamritam." We also bought lots of other cool stuff including some metal Balaji/Padmavati/Sridevi Deities. Right now I'm in Hyderbad where I will be spending the rest of my trip. I did manage to buy quite a few books - Gerald and Mukunda, do take note. First off, I got a three volume set of the Amarakosha, which I believe is one of the Sanskrit dictionaries used by Srila Prabhupada. It looks like even Madhva referred to it in his Gita bhashya. The third volume is what I would expect of a Sanskrit-English dictionary, but the first two volumes are basically just Sanskrit verses - I don't know what to make of them. I also purchased the Harivamsha Purana (Sanskrit only), Mahabharata (Sanskrit only, not sure what edition it is), and a copy of Manu Smriti which has both Sanskrit and English verse by verse translation. I also got a shipment of books from DK Agencies. Gerald, you will be happy to note that these books included some good stuff - Varaha Purana (All-India Kashiraj Trust publication) with full Sanskrit and English, and numerous Tattvavadi publications including Vishnutattvavinirnaya (Sanskrit text and English translation with notes by BNK), Madhva's Gita bhashya (contains Sanskrit text for everything, along with English translations of the commentaries only), and some of Madhva's commentaries on various Upanishads. I also have my third box of books here which includes Mahabharata translated into English (verse by verse) and the rest of the Rig Veda along with some not so great translations of the Atharva and Sama. I'm still figuring out how I'm going to lug all this stuff back with me. I anticipate doing a little more book shopping - mostly just to buy few more of the Nag Publishers Puranas that are available at the local book store. Not much else is there so I don't see that there is much chance of me getting my hands on any other good stuff as far as books are concerned. Ramya and I are doing shopping for other things, though. I may try to check my mail one more time before I leave, so if you have any message you want to get through to me, doing so in the next 2-3 days would be a good idea. yours, K
