SAMSKRT.COM NEWSLETTER MARCH 2001

 

Dear Members,

 

I am proud to announce that samskrt.com now has 225 members of which 20

are enrolled students from all over the world. Thank you all for your

encouragement

and support. Our goal is to increase the membership to 2000 by December

2001.

 

1. NEW FEATURES

 

a. Sanskrit Speeches Series: This series is intended to improve Sanskrit

listening comprehension, and also to provide members with an opportunity

to speak in Sanskrit.

 

The first three speeches in this series are online, and can be accessed

from your "My page" at www.samskrt.com.

 

We invite contributions form members. If you would like to talk about a

particular topic, please record your speech (in any digital format) and

send it to us at speech along with an English translation.

The only two conditions are (a) The speech must be in Sanskrit, and (b)

The duration of the speech should be not more than 5 minutes. (Chennai

members can visit our office to record their speeches).

 

b. Sanskrit Articles Series: The goal of this series is to promote

Sanskrit-related

literature. The articles may be written in either Sanskrit or English.

The first article is online (topic: Sermons in Stones), and can be accessed

from your "My Page" at www.samskrt.com. Articles can be submitted to

articles.

Articles can be on any topic but must be limited to 1000 words.

 

NOTE: The speeches and articles will be online only if its contents are

approved by the members of our editorial board. They have the discretion

to make changes in its contents and language. Their decision is final and

indisputable. If you have questions, please send an email to admin.

 

 

c. Bhagavat Gita Series: This series will introduce one verse of Bhagavat

Gita every day (chanting + commentary). The series will go online on April

3, 2001. The focus here will be more on vocabulary and appreciation of

the Gita as a literary piece.

 

2. TECHNICAL ISSUES:

a. Font problems: If you are not able to see Devanagari fonts on our site,

please see our FAQ section at http://www.samskrt.com/FAQ.asp to troubleshoot

the problem.

 

b. Firewall problems: If you are accessing our audio files through corporate

firewalls, you may have experienced problems. We have solved this problem.

If audio is still not working, please contact us. (admin)

 

c. We are in the process of developing our own "Samskrt" ttf font that

will be made available for free to all members. We are looking for volunteers

to beta test the font. If you are interested in testing the font, please

contact us at admin. The font will be ready for testing on

April 1, 2001.

 

For a limited time we are offering each course for $99.00 for people outside

India and Rs500/- people within India.

 

Finally, do send us your feedback and suggestions. We value them greatly.
