Hare Krishna.

I would like to apprise Achintya members of the Achintya database, located

at:

achintya/database

This link, accessible by members, contains various databases

containing information on Vedic literatures. Included are various

publications/translations of Vedas, Upanishads, Puraanas, Mahaabhaarata,

etc. The database is far from complete. Eventually, I want to add databases

for each specific Vaishnava sampradaaya. I especially need to create a

"Gaudiiya literature" database, which will be split into two parts - the

first being books which are high-quality, and thus safe for newcomers in

Krishna-consciousness (specifically Srila Prabhupada's books), and the

second part will contain all other books (i.e. - those written/translated by

less capable devotees, or by academics interested in Gaudiya Vaishnavism).

Eventually I want to include a database for Vaishnava devotional music in

the classical Hindustani and South Indian carnatic styles.

I invite all members to peruse the databases and even add to the already

existing ones, based on the books they themselves have found or read. Please

note, however, that inclusion of books in the database does not constitute

an indiscriminate endorsement of their presentation. These books are there

only because they would be useful for Vaishnavas engaged in research and

other scholarly endeavors (for example, some of the books are clearly

translations by mayavadi authors, but they contain original Sanskrit text of

bona fide scriptures). Wherever possible, I have specified the "sampradaaya"

of those who published or translated the book. "Shankara" refers to bona

fide followers of Shankaraachaarya, "Academic" refers to secular,

third-parties, and "Other" refers to miscellaneous parties (often various

Hindus who do not strictly follow any sampradaaya). Obviously, other

designations such as "Maadhva,Gaudiiya,Sri Vaishnava," etc are

self-explanatory.

Please feel free to make use of this service, and to help with the expansion

of the already-existing databases.

regards,

S. HariKrishna
