Guest guest
I think Hari Krishna Susarla is exactly right! I don't think my mother-in-law would be at all interested in Krsna Consciousness if I was being pushy and critical. Too often devotees (& non-devotees) forget how sensitive human beings are to criticism. I don't have very good preaching qualifications, but I am trying to do the best I can with what I have. [by the way, thank you, everyone for all of the very helpful advice--none of which should be off-putting to my mother-in-law] But one of the reasons my mother-in-law wants to be a devotee is because she feels that we must be tolerant, generous, & happy people. She is right, actually. Vaisnavas must be more tolerant than a tree, according to Lord Caitanya. We also must try to be generous, both materially and spiritually. Materially, because we know that what is material is not ours to begin with, as it belongs to Krsna; spiritually, because what you give (or try to give) also gives back to you. We are happy because we have faith in Krsna as a person, that we can have a relationship with, rather than as an abstract concept. Also, people who spend their time meditating on Krsna, the Supreme Person, and thinking of how to give the gift of Krsna consciousness to others, are bound to be happier than those that are constantly meditating on how sinful everyone is. Most of us are sinful people in some form or another, otherwise, how did we fall down to the material world in the first place? Maybe we can all try to help each other obtain the blessings of Guru & Gauranga so we can go back to Godhead.
