My wife and I have been trying to figure this one out for some time now. In my area (Cleveland, OH), the growing season is no longer than 6 months. The winters are severe, and nothing survives outside -- at least nothing worth offering. We have been trying chrysanthamums, azaeleas, and marigolds. During winter, we bring them indoors and place them near our altar, with some special plant lights set up nearby. Some of the mums actually survived in this fashion, but only after very aggressively watering and fertilizing them, while at the same time avoiding overwatering. Often times we just end up going out and buying flowers during the winter, especially on festival days when we want to have nice puja. It's expensive, but it's definitely worth it. Something you might want to try-- We added a pair of pagoda fountains to our puja room, placed on either side of the altar and hooked up to an automatic timer. It adds an element of serenity, and certainly the puja area should be the most serene part of any household. yours, Krishna
