Guest guest
Does anyone know of a good, traditional-sounding recording of Daamodaraashtakam that I can play before my Deities? I must emphasize "traditional," that is, sung according to Indian ragas and with Indian instruments. I can accept any format - CD, tape, or MP3. On another note, I was once told that Kaartik actually begins the day after Diwali. But my understanding was that Kaartik already began, and that Diwali always falls in the middle of it. Does anyone know if this alternate reckoning figures into any traditional calendars (perhaps South Indian ones)? thanks, - K
Guest guest
Hare Krishna This is what I picked up from the following site wherein it mentions "Performing vrata in the month of Kartika (Damodara) is glorified profusely in the puranas. Since this month is very dear to Krsna by performing austerities, or restraining ones sense gratification and performing activities to please the senses of the Lord, one becomes very dear to the Krsna. As Satya yuga is the best of yugas, as the vedas are the best of scriptures, as ganga is the best of rivers, so kartika is the best of months, the most dear to Krsna. The vrata may begin on the ekadasi of the waxing moon of asvina, on the purnima, or (samkranti) when the sun enters the house of Libra." http://www.hknet.org.nz/parishad76-k.htm#Information However, I do know that it is on the Diwali day that the pastime of Mother Yashoda tying the rope to Krishna's belly took place. Perhaps for this reason devotees speculate that after this Kartik starts. This is just something that came to my mind after reading your query. Otherwise we really begin Kartik on the day of Sarad Purnima and the entire month is celebrated in glorification of Damodar since it is in this month that the past time took place. I am not aware of any South Indian belief to this effect but will try and find out in a few days. your servant shashika

This present Kali Yuga is the best. God is not cheap. He is, normally, very difficult to attain. For example in Satya; 60,000 yrs of aus- terities and meditation. In Treta 1000-2000 year yajnas etc... But in this age of Kali simply and only by constant uttering of God's name, we attain perfection !!!!!!!! Very easy, in fact the easiest. Therefore this age is considered, by all Vaishnavas, to be the best, especially and exceptionally due to the fact that Lord Krishna appeared just 515 yrs ago as Sri Krsna Caitanya; to personally deliver this easy process !!!! Hoping this may help and the we are all taking advantage of this easy process. RGd Find a job, post your resume. http://careers.
