Guest guest
This is a mail about a number of topics in tha last few days( My server was down) so cudn't reply earlier 1) Sri Krishna Susarla wrote " But the point I really wanted to make, is that although there are many people in India who to the "caste-by-birth" thinking, there are also many who do perform their varnaashrama dharma properly, better in many respects than most of us. If we don't acknowledge that, and simply criticize blindly, then we will come across as presumptuous and hypocritical to the very people whose culture we are trying to defend. " Of the one billion Indians hardly a handful(Relatively) practice Varnasrama system as enjoined by the Vaisnava acharyas...else..the majority of the common public think that Varnasrama syatem is "caste by birth" based.. Infact this is one of the main objections raised by the anti-brahmin movements of India that this Varnasrama system is caste based..Now..have we not heard blanket statements made against a particular sect just because activities of some mebers were unacceptable?..so I think we can give some leeway for that...clarifications can be sought before making any hard statements..pray no more pondering over this any further as this is a big subject matter fit for some other forum.. 2) I have heard that even birth does play an important role in deciding the Varnas( probably genes?) and in the vedic age the horoscope of an individual was also used by the Guru in deciding which particular varna the individual should be trained for...in addition to his activities & gunas as judged till then... 3)Sri MDd had written that ultimately even the varnasrama has to be given up ( sarva dharman parityajya)..does it apply even to a daiva varnasrama system where the goal is only to please Lord Vishnu or Krishna..is it not based on devotion? The ideal system as envisaged by Srila Prabhupada will help develop one's pure devotion gradually and doesn't seem in any way to be an external system to be given up or is it? some more clarifiactions might be helpful....( I came across an interesting excerpt from Srila Prabhupada's BG"by this varnasrama system one can satisfy one's perverted desires and finally go back to godhead"(Not the exact quote-tracing the exact quote) can someone explain this too please if my quote is right? 4)Is there any particular count of beads that shud be there in a mala? I work( supervisory) in awkward places where I can't carry my bead bags..so Instead of clicker I use a small mala made of 27 beads which I use for counting( Inspiration from some muslims)..instead of the clicker..by this I maintain a sense of touch on the beads & yet is easy to carry..but i wish to know if it is ok like that..Sure Srila Prabhupada didn't give such a thing..but I heard that Hari Bhakthi Vilasa says the minimum number of beads in a mala- some particular counts..anyone aware of it?
