To Khara's death, to the destroyer of Dusana, to Raghu,

to the slayer of Marica, who made His way across the ocean,

and to the breaker of the mangala-sutras of Lanka's women,

Oh, how my mind ever clings to Lord Rama!

I assume that "breaking of the mangala-sutras...." refers to His

causing them to become widows... or am I mistaken?

Yes, and sorry, but it should have read "the Lord of Lanka's

women" (i.e., Ravana's wives). Raghunatha was death personified to

Ravana and his whole entourage.

One can just imagine mother Sita sitting beneath the Asoka tree

thinking in this way just to ease her separation; for all we know, she

may even have etched this verse into its bark.
