Guest guest
Hare Krishna! Dear devotees, I would like to take a moment to again invite list members to help contribute to and develop the Achintya home page, located at www.achintya.org. Those of you who are members, but who do not have a userid and password, can get one for free by going to the above website and clicking on "join this group." When it takes you through the registration process, simply give the email address with which you are already d. It will then link a userid to your subscription, allowing you to access the Achintya page's special features. These special features (which you can access after logging on), include: message archive, ability to post through the web, online chatting, file download area, photo album, bookmarks, book & music database, and calendar. I would like to take minute to recognize some of the contributors who are already helping out with the webpage. Ninar has agreed to review the bookmarks and make certain that they are updated. Narayana Subramanian has graciously taken up the calendar seva, updating it periodically and sending out reminder notices for important dates like Ekaadashi. There are other areas in which we could still use help. These are as follows: FILES: We are maintaining an online collection of useful files for Gaudiiya Vaishnavas. These include Indian language fonts, diacritic fonts, essays, devotional music mp3s (traditional styles only), recipes, a Gaudiiya Vaishnava verse list, and pretty much anything else that might be useful. - Recipes: As mentioned earlier, we want to have a collection of various vegetarian recipes that are fit for offering to the Lord. Recipes of all ethnicities are acceptable, so long as they are vegetarian and don't have onion/garlic/mushroom which are forbidden for us. There does not need to be any one specific devotee in charge of this. Rather, everyone can simply contribute whatever they have. The files should either be in Word format or standard text file format, and if the recipes are foreign in nature, it would be good to mention from what country they are from. - GV verse list: This was a small effort on my part to put some verses in ITRANS format (Sanskrit, word-for-word, and English translation) for different verses cataloged by different areas. It is meant for devotees who do online preaching; they can simply copy- cut-paste verses as needed in their correspondence. If one or more devotees could agree to help maintain and update this list, it would be a great service. What are needed are verses from mainstream scriptures, especially Shriimad BHaagavatam and SHriimad Bhagavad Giitaa. Contact me at achintya-owner if interested. PHOTOS: We are keeping an online collection of pictures of various Krishna/Vishnu Deities around the world. ISKCON temples have a very liberal policy towards allowing photography of their Deities, but there are some other temples that also allow it. Please upload pictures of temple Deities whom you have visited, to allow all of us to get their Darshan. Please name the photos appropriately, and provide a description of who They are, Their names, where They are, and any other pertinent information. BOOKMARKS: As mentioned previously, Sri Ninar is already updating the bookmarks section. We are always interested in getting more bookmarks, especially for homepages of Vaishnava temples, historic temples in India, web pages containing scriptures & Sanskrit documents, Gaudiiya Vaishnava web pages, Krishna-conscious charities, etc. The only requirement for such web pages is that they are nonpolitical in nature and not offensive to Vaishnavas. Please submit any suggested links to achintya-owner. DATABASE: We are maintaining an online database for Vedic books, and Vedic music. Already I have made a start by cataloging books that I have found. Others should also contribute. We are interested in books pertaining to the various Vedaanta traditions, either by devotees or academics. We are also interested in printed versions of Sanskrit texts, translations of such texts, works of various aachaaryas, etc. Here again, there need be no one specific devotee in charge. Everyone can contribute by giving information on any books they are familiar with. Please just make sure that the books are cataloged properly. Some books can be cataloged under more than one area. For example, Shriimad Bhaagavatam translated by Srila PRabhupada is cataloged under Gaudiiya Vaishnava books as well as under Puraanas. If there are any questions about this, please contact me at achintya-owner. your servant, - K
