This is from the end of Srila Prabhupada's purport to this verse: Gambling of all description, even speculative business enterprise [this indicates the stock market], is considered to be degrading, and when gambling is encouraged in the state, there is a complete disappearance of truthfulness. I think Srila Prabhupada is right on here. If anyone knows about the uproar over the Enron fraud--orchestrated to keep their company stock high, so that they could cheat people-- you can see how this gambling destroys truthfulness. Hope this helps. Hare Krsna! ys, Maharani dd Greetings - Send FREE e-cards for every occasion! http://greetings.

In his otherwise fairly detailed purport to Srimad Bhagavatam, 1.17.38 (regarding the places Kali was allowed to stay), Srila Prabhupada implies this, somewhat, but he doesn't go into much detail about it: "Gambling of all description, even speculative business enterprise, is considered to be degrading, and when gambling is encouraged in the state, there is a complete disappearance of truthfulness."
