Guest guest
Dear devotees, I made an error in moderation a few days ago in allowing the website link in the "Very Nice Site...." thread to be posted. When I took a first glance at it, it did indeed appear to be devoted to our beloved jagad-guru. The author of that posting probably submitted it innocently, and I certainly wish him no ill-will. But upon closer examination (after another list member pointed it out), this site is in fact mixing politics with katha, specifically ritvik-intiation politics. As you all know, Achintya's focus is Krishna-katha, whether that be in describing stories, discussing/debating philosophy, discussing Vedic history as it pertains to great devotees, etc. Many other mailing lists and "devotional" websites exist, but many of them are tainted by a desire to push forward some political agenda. Such institution-specific issues are not at all relevant to Achintya. Although it is acceptable to discuss issues of philosophy that have political ramifications for some institutions, the crucial difference is that discussions here stick to scriptural/logical analysis, and NOT to resolutions of this or that group, or ad hominem attacks against any individual. Our sampradaaya suffers from the fact that many neophyte devotees want to propagate its presence on the internet, and yet they continue to mix in politics and/or bad, unbrahminical behavior with their devotional presentation. Such displays of "dirty laundry" are in bad taste for those of us who are trying to cultivate gentle, Vedic culture. They do not flatter Srila Prabhupada or our previous aachaaryas. Achintya was formed so that devotees could get away from all of that, and cultivate a gentle, brahminical spirit that is more appropriate for discussion. I have therefore deleted the messages of this thread from the message archive, and am rejecting any further complaints about this ritvik website and its politics. Achintya's focus must remain transcendental to institutional politics. If devotees wish, they are welcome to discuss the shaastric basis (or lack thereof) of the ritvik idea. There are certanly many Sanskrit shlokas that discuss guru-tattva in detail, and I highly recommend that devotees refer to them. But Achintya is not the place to propagate institution- specific resolutions, documents, accuse this or that party of wrong- doing, etc. Please accept my apologies for my sloppy moderation in this instance. I will continue to try to enforce Achintya rules very strictly, and I am sorry if this is a source of consternation for some. Hopefully the end product will continue to be worth it. your servant, Krishna Susarla
