Guest guest
Dear devotees, I have seen elsewhere in another mailing list, a distinction made between "Vaidika" and "Naama" mantras. The idea is that the former require that the chanter have the proper pronunciation, qualification, etc, while the latter is merely composed of the Lord's names and thus does not require any special qualification. I am interested to know if Srila Prabhupada has recognized such a distinction in his writings - i.e. that all mantras made up of the Lord's names do not require special qualification, while Vaidika mantras which are not made up of the Lord's names do. Of course, implicitly we have to understand that there are such differences, since we know that most Vedic mantras do require some qualification, while mantras like the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra do not. Still, this is the first time I have heard of anyone formally stating the distinction, and I am interested to know if Srila Prabhupada or any of our AchAryas have done the same. I am also interested to know if the shaastras refer to such a distinction explicitly. Thanks in advance, - K
