Srimad-Bhagavatam 4-7-38

"The great mystics said : Dear lord, persons who see You as nondifferent

from themselves, knowing that You are the Supersoul of all living entities,

are certainly very , very dear to You. You are very favorable towards those

who engage in devotional service, accepting You as the Lord and themselves

as the servants. By Your mercy You are always inclined in their favor."

Srila Prabhupada teaches us (partial purport) " .... Persons who are

in full knowledge of the Personality of Godhead, analyzing His different

energies and knowing their own constitutional position, are certainly very,

very dear to the Lord. Persons, however, who may not even be conversant

with knowledge of the Supreme Personality but who always think of the Lord

with love and faith, feeling that He is great and that they are His parts

and parcels, ever His servitors, are even more favored by Him.... The Lord

is famous as bhakta-vatsala, which means that He is always favorably

inclined to the devotees, whereas He is never addressed anywhere in the

Vedic literature as jani-vatsala."

Your Ever Well-Wisher

Letter to: Kirtanananda

Los Angeles

25 January, 1969

"My Dear Kirtanananda, Regarding your question

about the disciplic succession coming down from Arjuna, it is just like

I have got my disciples, so in the future these many disciples may have

many branches of disciplic succession. So in one line of disciples we may

not see another name coming from a different line. But this does not mean

that person whose name does not appear was not in the disciplic succession.

Narada was the Spiritual Master of Vyasadeva, and Arjuna was Vyasadeva's

disciple, not as initiated disciple but there was some blood relation between

them. So there is connection in this way, and it is not possible to list

all such relationships in the short description given in Bhagavad-gita

As It Is. Another point is that disciplic succession does not mean one

has to be directly a disciple of a particular person. The conclusions which

we have tried to explain in our Bhagavad-gita As It Is is the same as those

conclusions of Arjuna. Arjuna accepted Krishna as the Supreme Personality

of Godhead, and we also accept the same truth under the disciplic succession

of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Things equal to the same thing are equal to one

another. This is an axiomatic truth. So there is no difference of opinion

of understanding Krishna between ourselves and Arjuna. Another example

is that a tree has many branches, and you will find one leaf here and another

leaf there. But if you take this leaf and the other leaf and you press

them both, you will see that the taste is the same. The taste is the conclusion,

and from the taste you can understand that both leaves are from the same

tree. "

Further quotes on unplugging the karmic fan...:

(from "Perfect Questions/Perfect Answers")

Srila Prabhupada: Any kind of distress

we suffer is due to our impious activities in the past.

Bob: But when someone is removed

from karmic influence...

Srila Prabhupada: Yes?

Bob: ... does he still get sick?

Srila Prabhupada: No. Even if he

gets sick, that is very temporary. For instance, this fan is moving. If

you disconnect the electric power, then the fan will move for a moment.

That movement is not due to the electric current. That is force--what is

it called, physically, this force?

Syamasundara: Momentum.

Srila Prabhupada: Momentum. But

as soon as it stops, no more movement. Similarly, even if a devotee who

has surrendered to Krsna is suffering from material consequences, that

is temporary. Therefore, a devotee does not take any material miseries

as miseries. He takes them as Krsna's, God's, mercy...."
