Srimad-Bhagavatam 4-7-40

"The personified Vedas said : We offer our respectful obeisances unto

You, the Lord, the shelter of the quality of goodness and therefore the

source of all religion, austerity and penance, for You are transcendental

to all material qualities and no one knows You or Your actual position."

Srila Prabhupada teaches us (partial purport) : "In the material world

there is a trinity of the three material qualities. Lord Vishnu has accepted

the superintendence of the quality of goodness, which is the source of

religion, knowledge, austerity, renunciation, opulence, etc. Because of

this, actual peace, prosperity, knowledge and religion can be attained

when the living entities are under the control of the quality of goodness

in the material world. As soon as they are subjected to the control of

the other two qualities, namely passion and ignorance, their precarious

conditional life becomes intolerable. But Lord Vishnu, in His original

position, is always nirguna, which means transcendental to these

material qualities... The Vedic principles are based on the three qualities

of the material modes. One has to transcend the three qualities, and then

one can be situated in pure and simple spiritual life."

Your Ever Well-wisher

From a letter written by Srila Prabhupada in New York, June 9,1967

:

My Dear N.....,

I am very glad to receive your recent letter. I am also

glad to inform you that I am improving my health by the Grace of Krishna.

I don't believe in medicine or doctors, but I am practically perceiving

that the massaging is helping me beyond expectation. Today I have taken

a shower bath by myself, and I am reciting from Srimid Bhagavatam, and

am enjoying the seashore here in N. J. I believe that within a fortnight

I shall recoup my health sufficiently and be able to start for San Francisco

and meet you all there.

I am also glad to learn that you have a child within your

womb, and please accept all my blessings for the newcomer for whom we shall

be very glad to receive just after a few months. Please take care of your

health so that the child may grow very healthy and become Krishna Conscious.

Prahlada Maharaja was in the womb of his mother and heard the instruction

of Narada Muni and later on he became the most famous devotee of Lord Krishna.

It is the duty of all parents to make every child Krishna Conscious, so

that the fortunate child born of Krishna Conscious parents may not have

any more to take birth in this material world.

Thank you for the very fine leaf.

Your ever well-wisher,

A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami
