The Glory of the Holy Name

 

Text 16

 

a.mhaH samharad akhila.m

 

sakR^id udayAd eva sakala-lokasya

 

taraNir iva timira-jaladhi.m

 

jayati jagan-ma.ngala.m harer nAma

 

aMhaH-sins; samharat-removes; akhilam-all;

sakR^it-once; udayAt-from the arisal; eva-certainly;

sakala-entire; lokasya-of the world; taraNiH-the sun;

iva-like; timira-of darkness; jaladhim-an ocean;

jayati-all glories; jagat-to the universe;

ma.ngalam-auspiciousness; hareH-of lord hari;

nAma-name.

 

“All glories to the holy name of Lord Hari. As the

boat of the sun goes to the other shore of the ocean

of darkness, so the all-auspicious holy name, rising

once, destroys all sins.” - shrI lakSmIdhara
