AcaNdAlam amUka-loka-sulabho vashyash ca mukti-shriyaH

 

no dikSA.m na ca sat kriyA.m na ca purashcaryA.m manAg

AkR^iSTiH-attraction; kR^ita-cetasAm-of saintly

persons; su-manasAm-of the most liberal-minded;

uccATanam-annihilator; ca-also; a.mhasAm-of sinful

reactions; A-caNDAlam-even to the candelas;

amUka-except the dumb; loka-sulabhaH-very easy to

achieve for all persons; vashyaH-full controller;

ca-and; mukti-shriyaH-of the opulence of liberation;

no-not; dIkSAm-initiation; na-not; ca-also;

sat-kriyAm-pious activities; na-not; ca-also;

purashcaryAm-regulative principles before initiation;

manAk-slightly; IkSate-depends upon; mantraH-mantra;

ayam-this; rasanA-tonhue; spR^ik-touching; eva-simply;

phalati-fruitful; shrI-kR^iSNa-nAma-AtmakaH-consisting

of the holy name of lord kR^iSNa.

 

“The holy name of lord kR^iSNa is an attractive

feature for many saintly liberal people. It is the

annihilator of all sinful reactions and is so powerful

that save for the dumb who cannot chant it, it is

readily available to everyone, including the lowest

type of man, the caNDAla. The holy name of kR^iSNa is

the controller of the opulence of liberation, and it

is identical with kR^iSNa. Simply by touching the holy

name with one's tongue, immediately effects are

produced. Chanting the holy name does not depend on

initiation, pious activities or the purashcaryA

regulative principles generally observed before

initiation. The holy name does not wait for all these
