So should you and everyone else, because that's the only reason you're discussing it here today. MDd
Guest guest
Ok, I did remember one more point I wanted to respond to: achintya, "Madhava" <harekrishna@s...> wrote: > Whatever Bhaktisiddhanta did, whether right or wrong, you should honestly admit that it was different from the preceding tradition. > Well, Lord Chaitanya and many of His associates observed the institution of varnaashrama, the renounced order of life, and wore saffron cloth. What Srila Bhaktisiddhanta did was no different from that. More below. > Renouncing varnasrama-dharma is in accordance with the instructions of Sri Caitanya for the renunciate class of devotees. > All of the sources you quoted refer to devotees who are on the platform of total surrender. They do not refer to ordinary devotees with material desires. It would be wrong for ordinary people to renounce varnaashrama dharma. I have already quoted from Vishnu Puraana indicating that such people worship Lord Vishnu through varnaashrama dharma, and the dire consequences (mentioned in Bhagavad- Gita) for those who neglect scriptural injunctions. Even Shriimad Bhaagavatam, the pure essence of Vedic literature, spends some time discussing varnaashrama dharma. Clearly, it is meant to be followed by those who are not paramahamsas, and saying that it is not part of the Gaudiiya tradition is wrong, unless you are saying that the Gaudiiya tradition excludes everyone other than the cent percent surrendered devotees, and is averse to Vedic regulations. The Gosvamis would not instruct common people to just give up varnaashrama; that kind of renunciation is only for the very advanced devotee. Asking a neophyte to give up varnaashrama is defiance of shaastric regulations. yours, - K
