SportGavaskar lays foundation stone for 'Sai Gramam' Thiruvananthapuram, May. 22

(PTI): Former Captain Sunil Gavaskar, today suggested the BCCI conduct a cricket

event with top players for raising funds for the Sai Gramam project planned by

the Sathya Sai Orphanage Trust here. Speaking after laying the foundation stone

for the project at Thonnakkal near here, Gavaskar said he and his family had

been devotees of Satya Saibaba for over 30 years and "that has brought light

and bright to my family." Lighting a traditional brass lamp -- nilavilakku - to

mark the occasion, Gavaskar requested the BCCI to conduct an entertainment

cricket event with top stars like Virender Sewagh, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumbale

and V V S Laxman for raising funds for the "Sai Gramam," a major charity

institution coming up in the State. "I am sure BCCI Secretary S K Nair, closely

associated with the project, would do a good job for the completion of the

project," Gavaskar said after laying the stone brought from Prasanthi Nilayam

in Andhra Pradesh after blessed by Sri Satya Sai Baba. The Rs. 240-crore Sai

Gram project include, orphanages, Bala Bhavan, hospitals, old age homes,

industrial and agriculture project telemedicine, a study centre of Sanskrit and

Vedas.
