Dear Yogaman,

Other than tongue and intestines, the supremo has given us

places, where the food ingredients are readily and instantaneously

absorbed; e.g. Nicotine in smoke is absorbed in "Shringataka Marma" a place in

nose, where several nerves end; that is the place where "Nasya"

oils are absorbed a little. This also absorbs "Pranashakti" coming

through breath.

Sinuses are also places where direct absorption of some ingredient

occurs. And our skin also breaths, unless the pores are closed due to

artificial cosmetics/dust. The steam bath, sauna bath and mud bath

in "Naturopathy" opens up this route also.

When medicine is needed by body urgently, such routes are prescribed

in ayurveda. For instance, under mild heart attack, one has to give

sublingual medicine, So also when person has to be kept alive for few

more hours till Sub-registrar arrives to get signature on "Property

papers" , Vaidyas are called to get this "life extension".

All the sites where such foods, toxins or medicines are absorbed are

directly connected to particular organ by nerves running to that

particular organ. In particular, one may feel instant relaxation when

a piece of crystal sugar is kept on the tongue. The glucose is

readily absorbed in Cerebro-Spinal-Fluid, giving energy boost to

brain.

These nerve connections are also exploited in "Yoga" by way of

various "Mudras" such as Shambhavi, Khechari, JIvha etc.

Ayurveda recognizes fresh juice ("swaras") as the best mode for

taking medicines in many herbs, but since patients are slaves to

tongue, to avoid taste, pills are prescribed. Non availability of

fresh herbs in city is also one reason to go for pills. Not many

patients like to take powders, though they are better than pills.
