Guest guest
This is for Michelle. You are perhaps going to get a lot of mail on this one. India has a lot to offer in terms of relics, history and photography, so keep plenty of Film handy. You can photograph almost any one and any scene. No problems.Every one, if not every alternate person speaks English, You can ask any one for directions or information. The elctricity is 220 volts, so buy a 110 /20 converter, before you leave from here. You get some of these with several different adapters for different electric outlets. Precautions in general---drink bottled water, from reputed stores. The bottled water sold on the streets is sometimes "spurious". Hotels do provide bottled water. Eat only cooked, and warm food. Do not eat cold or uncooked foods. Salads at reputed restaurants are fine. Watch out for Pick pockets. Indians , in general, are very friendly people, especially to tourists, and that too Americans. But, do watch out for pick pockets. If you are travelling in a group, you should be fine. Specific Precautions--Do not eat at roadside places, where plates are not properly washed, or worse, improperly washed---you can get Hepatitis. Take vaccine, before you leave. The other thing is Malaria. You can buy Larium tablets, one a week is fine. Plus there are "coils" that burn slowly, releasing a substance that keeps mosquitoes away. You can buy these at any pharmacy store. Ususally, physicians are very good, and you can buy any medication without a prescription. Prescription obviously helps. Enjoy yourself. What's your itinerary, in terms of the cities ? ( not the dates ) Durgesh Mankikar,MD
