Guest guest
It was gladdning to read that scientists are working on a new molecule to give multiple benefits like prolong life, reduce obesity, increase libido, fight cancer etc. The molecule is called 'resveratrol'. It has been derived from skin of grape. The joy is more becasue I remember Ashtanghriday recommending 'grape' as a 'should have everyday' fruit. Two vegetables that Ashtanghriday recommends for everyday use are 'Patol' and 'Jivanti' more so the latter. While the first one is identified with 'Parval' and is generally used as a vegetable. But I have not come accross use of 'Jivanti' as a vegetable in any part of the country. Its unlikely that a vegetable recommended by Ayurveda would have got eliminated from traditional diet. Is it that 'Jivanti' is wrongly identified with 'Leptadenia reticulata' and it really is one of the leafy vegetables that we eat regularly or is it not tasting well. Would appreciate any light that can be thrown on this so that people can build it into everyday diet even before the 'scientists' discover its great virtues.
