Guest guest
Anxiety, depression etc being multifaceted, ayurvedic approach also cant be boiled down to single herbal medicine. Each case has different Viktruti to some extent and accordingly, ayurvedist must design the medicine, lifestyle and food prescription. As an exception to the conclusions of clinically proven St John's Wort an experience quoted on this group itself is Message No. 2365, which can be readily looked up by clicking on: http://health.ayurveda/messages/2365 Dr Bhate ayurveda, Todd Caldecott <todd@t...> wrote: > but if in need of clinically proven alternatives to MD-prescribed > SSRIs, give your depressed patient's St. John's Wort, as per this most > recent study > > St. John's Wort as Effective as Paroxetine for Major Depression > > NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Feb 10 - Extract of Hypericum perforatum (St. > John's wort) is at least as effective as paroxetine (Paxil, > GlaxoSmithKline) for the treatment of moderate to severe major > depression, while being better tolerated, Germany investigators report > in the British Medical Journal, published online on February 10. Guest guest
-sigh- my point about St John's Wort is that is can be prescribed by medical doctors instead of instead of SSRIs as a safer alternative - that's it sometimes its useful to have an alternative to present to a doctor to get the patient off of the more harmful drug sometimes "harm reduction" the best you can hope for, and is often be a pathway to a deeper understanding of the issue - a foot in the door, if you will as far as what i PERSONALLY think about SJW, well, i have rarely used it for depression (its great for pain, tho) instead, i use a combination of dietary, lifestyle, social and esoteric therapies, along with a comprehensive herbal-supplemental regimen that is targeted to the INDIVIDUAL, often in combination with psychotherapists - all depending on where the patient is for quite awhile i was using an intriguing therapy called "energetic psychology" to promote positive shifts (see: Gallo, F. 2000. Energy Diagnostic and Treatment Methods. New York: WW Norton) another text I can recommend is the "Art of Positive Thinking," by Christopher Hansard > Anxiety, depression etc being multifaceted, ayurvedic approach also > cant be boiled down to single herbal medicine.
