Guest guest
Two years ago a friend of mine had several operations to fix a broken nose. The operation included surgery inside the nose and cut through the lining of the mucus membranes. Since then he has suffered chronic swollen mucous membranes in the nose with tremendous discomfort. He is getting little relief from allopathic nasal sprays. He had no symptoms previous to the operation, so I believe that allergies can safely be ruled out. I wonder if Ayurveda can do anything to help him and what approach should be taken? I guess there must have been some damage to the shrotas in the nose and disturbance in subdoshas connected with the nose, but what is is I have no clue about. He has not been to any ayurvedic doctor yet, so I wanted to get some advice here first. Thanks for any input. Ole
Guest guest
Dear Ole, Nasya therapy is the answer to your friends problem. Either "panchendriya vardhan" oil or "anu" oil would be the preffered nasya substances. If they are not available than cow's ghee, sesame oil or plain ghee (in that order of preference) can be used. Two drops of the above mentioned substances should be put in each nostrils while keeping the head tilted. A steam inhalation of plain water before and after putting the drops would enhance the effects. This should be done every night before going to sleep regardless of whether the symptoms are present or not. Additionally it can be done whenever the symptoms are present. The time difference between putting the drops and steam inhalation should be roughly one to two minutes. An intake of sookshma triphala (2 tabs 3 times after meals) or plain triphala (1 spoon at night) would also be helpful. Cybervaidya
Guest guest
Dear Cybervaidya, Thanks for the recommendation. How would these oils affect the membranes? The only online reference I an find about "panchendriya vardhan" oil is that it is used to nourish sensory perception. Are you talking about "Panchendriya guna vardhan taila" ? How would these oils work to heal or balance the mucous membranes? Is it a question of getting kapha into the tissues, because they are too dry, so the swelling is caused by obstruction of Kapha causing too much vata? Yesterday he told me it is worst during the winter, so I have a clue it is vata related. Thanks, Ole Cybervaidya <cybervaidya wrote: Dear Ole, Nasya therapy is the answer to your friends problem.
