Guest guest
Dear Frank, Greetings from India. Though I realised the implications of Codex very early on, it seems this is a debate limited to the West. The Indian Press is least bothered about the problem and did not publish it. Maybe it will find its place amongst the regular G8 meeting news but will not be debated. I think this is a very short sighted approach as in this world of globalisation ideas can fly very fast. Besides the Indian Pharma is also a Big Pharma and they must be itching to incorporate it in base. Here the problem with Big Pharma is the rising popularity of ayurvedic proprietory medicines. After the tremendous success in the beauty care segment, ayurveda seems to have got a second lease of life. I doubt if Big Pharma will take the threat lying down and may force the Health Ministry to "do something" in this regard. The Health Ministry here is very amiable and have even taken the extreme step of banning non iodised salt in India from August 15th. This is to please one big idustrial house here who makes iodised salt. They find it difficult to believe that sea salt contains many nutrients which have served us through centuries. Besides processed salt may contain harmful additives to reduce its sticky nature. The Health Ministry is also planning to introduce iron fortified salt. What next, antibiotic laced salt? Given the lack of awareness in India to these issues even that too may happen. The Codex problem is perceived here as a "political problem" and many alternate healing groups prefer to remain mum about it. Big brother is watching? However if the ayurvedic and homeopathic pharmacy in India is meddled with, it may raise a big hue and cry as these two systems have widespread public support. Yoga is becoming very popular in India once again and, as you know, yoga is a part of ayurveda. Where yoga goes ayurveda can never be far behind. There is a silver lining to Codex if you have noticed. It has united the alternative medicine forums in the US together. This is a factor which will benefit the alternative systems immensely by bringing them in sharp focus. The people with their head in the clouds had better watch the ground now. Keep up the good work Frank. You are doing a great job. Regards, Jagannath.
Guest guest
Jagannath, it is totally silent about it in the press everywhere and I do think that is part of the political plan. No discussions, no problems. Here in Norway there are only small groups concerned about Codex and its implications, but so far they get no attention. Guest guest
Dear Lara, Greetings. Thank you for the input. This is exactly what Frank, an alternate health activist from the US, is trying to determine. Why is the press silent about this draconian law? To the contrary many popular websites are writing about the benefits of Codex. I think I know the answer and I have written to many privately about it. It all boils down to revenue Lara. The pharmaceutical industry spends a considerable sum on advertisements on the media. The hospitals too give substantial concessions to media persons on their treatment costs. So the media is wary about disturbing the status quo. Moreover the media is not ready to shed its "rationilistic" approach even though they are aware of the ills plaguing the health sector. They erroneously feel that the solutions will come from within the present setup. In India, the vaccination adverse effect info was published in a reputed newspaper only after considerable data was placed before the editor. Even then the article carried only a small fraction of what was submitted. I believe this is the case everywhere. You must know how a radio interview with J.F.Kennedy Jr. has been terminated just because he has blatantly come out with very disturbing facts about vaccinations. But today there is a perceptible shift in attitude. I can feel it because when I first started my campaign in 1992, people called me a lunatic. I was booed and even threatened. It is not that I'm not being ridiculed or threatened today but I've started getting a stream of letters from various doctors/paramedical staff/alternate healers/patients and lay persons who say they support my views. I'm sure within a few more years people will start demanding cures and not "disease management". Then my work will be over.
