Guest guest
Dear List, Today we were discussing how cancer is forcing people to study alternate system. I have read that cancer is an immune system disorder. Everybody has cancerous cells in his body but only when the immune system is jeopardised does the cancer cells wreak havoc. You all must have noticed that Cancer mostly affects people who resort to lifestyle vices and thus endanger their immune system. One of my friends with cancer was a heavy smoker, smoking upto ten packets a day since the last 20 years. Thus while tackling cancer doctors are now thinking of methods to strengthen the immune system. I guess this will lead to a change in perception as to how disease is viewed by the mainstream. However they are still talking of vaccinations to tackle the menace of cancer. Contrary to popular views, vaccinations have a detrimental effect on the body's immune system. How cancer is now being perceived to be an immune system disorder is brought out in the following article, where it is plainly admitted that while the Human Papilloma Virus, thought to cause cervical cancer in women, is present in many women not all develop the cancer ; http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/07/050701061847.htm I have heard a reputed oncologist discuss, in a Rotary Club meeting, that if, instead of resorting to surgical procedures and chemotherapy, the patients are encouraged to let go of bad habits and combine the effects of good diet and exercise, the longevity of patients more than double. The effect of prayers on cancer patients is also being studied. I guess this holds good of all forms of chronic diseases. Nowhere in mainstream medicine will you find more openness today than in case of cancer studies. This is because, having noted the side effects of surgery and chemotherapy, many people simply switch over to alternate forms of treatment. Regards, Jagannath.
