Guest guest
Hello, I'm new to the group, would like to know please what the ayurveda has for a problem of mucus that comes up from the lungs to the mouth, ecxess of saliva sometimes. A Chinese doctor diagnosis (by tongue) was weak/ sensitive lungs. These steps has already been taken: did a colon cleanse (Schulze' s products) no dairy/ meat products organic food never smoked not taking take any drugs (poison) a russian salt room for breathing didn't solve the root the problem (was symptomatic only) taking antioxidants (glutathione, vitamin E, C beta carotene, arginine, chlorela, spirulina) but it seems that it doesn't answer the problem which is chronic for about three years. I thank you for any clue to what can be done here before it progresses to lung cancer which will be much more difficult to treat. Iris. Guest guest
Dear Iris, First of all, welcome to our community! Ayurveda has very specific treatments for your imbalance. The remedies/therapies that you have undergone are ok, but they will probably not bring about true healing, as they do not really get to the root-cause of the imbalance (Vikruti). This is a "Classic" - text book example of a Kapha imbalance. The lungs are "home" to Kapha; mucous in the lungs and excess saliva are again classic manifestations of Kapha imbalance. Please read message #5033 to see which foods/spices/beverages should be taken and avoided for a Kapha imbalance. Generally, foods and beverages that are heavy and cold in nature should be avoided. Taking foods/spices/beverages that are light, dry and warm are best for a Kapha imbalance. I am not aware of Schulze' s products for a colon cleanse, however, in dealing with a Kapha imbalance, enemas or "Basti" that are called "Niruhavasana", which are cleansing and reducing in nature are best. Consulting an Ayurvedic practitioner who can accurately diagnose your imbalance and one who is skilled in Basti administration is ideal. Avoiding meat and dairy is a good idea when dealing with a Kapha imbalance, as they are heavy, rich foods. If you do take cow's milk, make sure it is warm, and add some warm spices to it like clove and/or cinnamon to it. In general, you want to have a light diet. Split mung/moong beans, which can be purchased at a health food store, or on the internet, made into a simple soup with warm spices such as fresh ginger, fresh garlic, clove, cumin, black pepper, Indian long pepper (Pippali) and saffron should be cooked in the soup. These spices are light, dry and warm. There are many others, but these are very tasty, easily available, and make for a wonderful soup for excess Kapha/mucous. You can also make Basmati rice and have it with (or in) your soup. This combination is called "Kitchadi", and is the panacea food in Ayurveda. It is a cleansing food, tri-doshic, a complete protein, and brings about clarity of mind and a nice light feeling in the body when taken regularly. This alone, taken on a regular basis (3-5 meals a week) will be of great help to the Kapha imbalance. Trikatu, a delicious blend of black pepper, dry ginger, and Indian long pepper (Pipalli), should be taken to help clear the sinuses and lungs and eliminate the mucous. Trikatu can be purchased online in tablet form, but it is best to get it in its natural-spice-blend form. If you wake up with a heavy feeling and there is mucous evident, take 1/4 to 1/2 of a teaspoon of Trikatu and dissolve it in a cup of warm water. Drink the water, and if it is not too spicy for you, drink the spices too. You can use this infusion anytime you have excess mucous, feel lethargic or tired. You should take this before every meal also to raise your digestive fire (Agni). Should you feel excess heat in your body or sweat after taking the infusion, cut the dosage of trikatu untill you find a compatible ratio. You can buy trikatu at banyanbotanicals.com or Bazaarofindia.com. If you have an oil diffusor (as is used in aroma-therapy), use essential oils to help clear away the mucous. Anti-Kapha oils such as camphor, eucalyptus, tea tree, cinnamon, clary sage, peppermint, thyme or rosemary- individually or in your own recipe, are amoung the best. Be careful with tea tree, camphor and cinnamon oils as to not get them on your skin, as they may cause irritation. Put a few drops of the essential oil into a base vegetable oil and warm it in your diffusor, allowing the aromas to fill the room. You may *carefully* inhale the vapor through the nostrils to bring about immediate relief - especially fom tea tree, eucalyptus and clary sage oils. I strongly recommend that you seek guidance from a local Ayurvedic practitioner concerning your imbalance. He or She will be able to diagnose your condition and prescribe specific herbs and therapies to bring about true healing. Feel free to email me personally should you have any questions. I wish you good health. mentee
Greetings all, This is my first post here. I have found the information here, so very useful for a Kapha. I have fought mucus, fogginess, chest always filling full of fluid and all the typical complications that go along with such. I'm way pass being overweight, actually morbid as doctor wrote in my records -- I really don't like that word. I'm coming more into balance the last few weeks, by finally avoiding foods that I have read here to avoid. WOW!!! Western medicine is so far behind in just the basics --nutrition. I wish I would have learned the Kapha basics years ago ---- so many medications could have been avoided. Especially the antibiotics they have had me on and off for the 45 years, mostly do to chest infections. I have no idea what kind of condition my digestive system is --- good and regular bowel movements – got to love oatmeal. I swear I just have to look at milk and I generate mucus. Drink a pint of milk and I have a hangover feeling for a day or two. I’m also having water retention problems with my left leg…. Barely holding control. (medications) Ok, lets get positive.... I have been reading and reading, so much to learn. I have so many questions. But I will try to keep it simple. 1) The pantry is cleaned out and now time to bring Kapha foods into the house to replace those bad choices. 2) I have decided to start with Amaranth and Quinoa. I have also have collected about 30 recipes for these, tonight. 3) I have found several Kapha food lists on the internet. But each one is a little different and I don’t understand why. I can’t seem to find this post #5033, as mentioned below. Taking foods/spices/beverages that are light, dry and warm are best for a Kapha imbalance 4). Kitchadi, sounds a good place to start. There also seems to be several recipes for this on the internet. Could someone please be so kind as to post a Kitchadi recipe for a Kapha… if there is such a thing. And are you sure the Basmati rice, is ok for me on a daily basis? 5) I’ve also found a Kapha tea recipe. 6) How many days I can I safely and solely eat Kitchadi and consider I’m getting balanced nutrition. Would 2 or 3 weeks be to long? We’re about to go over 90 degrees here for awhile, so eating light should be easy. Thank you for any help and or advice you can offer. In gratitude and appreciation, Jeff Kapha on the path to balance please fell free to post any links I should read - in case I miss one or two
