Guest guest
Tired techies de-stress with ayurveda Ramesh Babu Thiruvananthapuram, November 10, 2005 __________ Every kid, hooked on his computer, dreams of an IT job. But this dream job comes with its share of baggage — health risks like computer vision syndrome, carpel tunnel, lumbago, cervical spondylosis and insomnia. So where does a tired techie go for rejuvenation? The answer is the Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College in Thrissur. Founded by the late Ashtavaidyan Neelakandhan Mooss, this college has developed a combo therapy to treat maladies that afflict frequent mouse-pushers and it claims to have treated hundreds of techies. It even has outlets in Bangalore that are popular with the city's IT professionals. In fact, if you visit the one in Koramangala, you may find Infosys mentor Narayanamurthy's wife Sudha doing her bit to help the overworked techies. Narayanamurthy tells HT: “I don’t suffer from any of the problems because I hardly work one or two hours on the computer. But I advise those who work more than eight hours to undergo treatment here.” College principal R.V.K. Varma says the conditions listed above are the five most common ailments. Computer vision syndrome affects vision, carpel tunnel syndrome cripples the wrist and lumbago or backache is identified with poor postures on chairs. Cervical spondylosis affects the neck while insomnia is associated with over-workload, deadlines and related stress. “The treatment is a combination of Ayurveda drugs for internal and external use, yoga and music therapy,” Dr Varma says, adding: “Most of the remedies are there in our ancient texts. But we have finetuned them to meet the challenges posed by modern devices.” http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/181_1542894,0002.htm
