Hi All,

My baby is nearly completing 5 months on this 31st and for past 4 to 5 days

she suddenly starts crying and puts her hand in her mouth frequently. If we give

our hands to her she tries to put that also in her mouth. normally she is a calm

baby but suddenly she gets irritated. some times she also takes her hand near

her ears. I am not able to understand what could be the reason. We are very much

afraid of this behaviour of hers. Kindly suggest. One more thing she is not

regular in passing stools, she does it after three or four days and also

sometime when we give her Baal jeevan ghutti. She keeps her mount open while she

is sleeping . we have observed that her nose is blocked and she can't breath

properly through her nose. also while feeding she makes lots of noise from her

nose and mouth.

Apart from the breathing problems..could she be teething?

Most important data missing here is whether the baby is nursed by

mother or external milk is provided. The vaccine history is also

missing here, important from the immune system malfunction angle.

Parents are requested to approach nearest Vaidya rather than making

Vaidyas guess here based on remote patient and inadequate data.

However, mothers should not be discouraged from seeking educational

info here.

Under the circumstances following logic is applied.

There are few clues here, which support guess by riley_flower.

1. She puts her hand in mouth frequently while crying.

2. Age is nearly 5 months. Generally, based on experience of several

parents, doctors, formula is number of teeth = age in months -6 based

on experiences in authors childhood. These days, as babies grow more

rapidly, they mature in puberty more rapidly, one can assume in this

case that at least two teeth are starting to come out of gums.

3. Babies get itching near gums, hence baby is trying to suck the

hand or fingers of others. Indian mothers used to give a wooden piece

shaped like teat, so that baby can relieve the itch.

4. Tooth pain causing head ache, ear ache is well known in elderlies.

Baby is taking hands near ear too.

5. Constipation could be due to diversion of energy to teeth

formation, reduced calcium, magnesium due to diversion to teeth

formation. Constipation (Vata) and mineral deficiency link is known. Due to

synthetic calcium not acceptable to body, deficiency in mothers is common, and

then breast milk too mineral deficient.

Many babies excreate loose or watery greenish unformed stools due to

reduced action by bowels. In this case, however, bowels are slowed

down and perhaps lack the energy/minerals to drive them. Ama (toxins) formed as

a result

have reduced digestive juices, giving rise to undigested ama to cause

nose blockage, giving rise to babies keeping the mouth open for

breathing.

Leaky guts as a result of vaccine induced auto-immunity, undigested

food particles sucked in the blood and resultant allergic reaction

can be ruled out since there is no mention of baby having recurring

attacks of cold etc. and the breathing noise is only during feeding. Baby is

otherwise calm.

6. Despite all above logic, parent is suggested to approach nearest

ayurvedic vaidya. If baby has milk allergy and if all this is immune

system response for the first time, if there is chest congestion, the

situation could worsen too. A stich in time saves nine. If teething

is going on, it can be confirmed by a simple test. Slide your finger

underneath gums. IF there is a sharp edge getting formed, assume

teething is causing the symptoms. Sweet water made from large crystal

sugar (Misri) and few drops of lemon added to it can be given every 4

hours to baby in that case. This relieves the symptoms.

7. Use of castor oil wick may relieve stress from constipation.

Another alternative is application of warm oil in which a pinch of

asfoetida added, on belly button of baby. Follow by low heat

fomentation. These things should be done by an experienced elderly

lady, in case no Vaidya nearby. Just by moving nabhi, one can relieve

constipation.
